A review about Transformers close to my heart:
There is so much action packed into every second of "Transformers" that by the time it's over, you may be tempted to go outside and give the box office another 10 bucks.
--Elizabeth Weitzman, New York Daily News
We've never been tipped for a good movie, but there is always a first time. Best news for you is that you don't have to shell out 10 bucks like they do in New Yawk. Top freight is $6.75, and you can even cut that down by going to a matinee or by GOING TO ICKES CHEVROLET-CADILLAC and getting your $2 off coupon. Now there's a deal!

With Independence Day falling midweek, studios altered their normal Friday release schedule to take advantage of the holiday crowds (more than 600 people were at the Eagle on Wednesday, which sure beats a normal Wednesday of 60 or 70...).
In addition to Transformers, the other mid-week opening was the Robin Williams movie, License to Wed. It's a pretty broad (i.e. silly) comedy, and watching Williams should be worth the price of admission.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix opens on Wednesday, but we are planning a 12:05 a.m. Wednesday showing (that's Tuesday night, folks!). I would suggest getting tickets for that one ahead of time. We don't usually sell out at midnight, but I have a feeling this one might be different.
This is the fifth Potter, and the series is growing older and darker, just like the books. The film is getting near univeral praise, and I expect that when the box office is tallied for the year, this will be in the top three.
Potter will replace Evan Almighty on the big screen, so you have until Tuesday to catch the Steve Carell film. Box office for that film is up to around $60 million, and it is going to have to rely on DVD and foreign showings to make back its enormous budget for special effects. It's a good family film.

One of the best family films of the season is Ratatouille. It's a Disney-Pixar film, so the animation is great, and the story is winning and funny. Our family saw it, and it is difficult to please people from 13 to 49, but Ratatouille managed to do it.
My 13-year-old too me to see Live Free or Die Hard, and my 80's sensibility connected to his love of action. Bruce Willis does an outstanding job in this film, and there is enough action going to keep you awake at even the late show. (I saw the film at the end of a 40 mile bike ride day, so it was tough.)

Our free kids series on Wednesday is turning out to be a BYOB day. Yes, people are starting to bring their own Boosters (child seats), as we can't keep enough on hand to serve the 250-plus population of young 'uns who show up for the event.
Eragon is coming up next Wednesday. We asked day cares to come on Tuesday when we show the movie for the SUMMER SUCCESS program. That has created some extra room in the auditoriums on Wednesday. We had room for another 70 this week, so if you have been put off by sell-out crowds, be aware that we probably have more room for you.
By the way, we have no problems with bringing your own booster seats. Just leave the outside pop and candy at home!
